Records Room Exhibit
The Records Room, located on the museum's third floor, is a researcher's paradise.

Scrapbooks from garden clubs, Daughters of the American Revolution and many other organizations are available for review, along with numerous official county records.

A large poster rack displays each page of the July 4, 1986 Harrison Daily Times sesquicentennial edition newspaper available for viewing. Printed when the State was 150 years old, this edition details 150 pages of local area history.
The room also contains several examples of old equipment used to produce some of these records, including teletype machines, registers, and a small printing press. Be sure to note the price of tires from the era, on printed material located at the base of the press.

Examples of Homestead certificates are included on top of the showcase, as well as death notices. In the days before telephones, written death notices were created using black-edged paper. This visible black edge served as a warning that one was about to read of a death.

Whether you are looking for records on members of your family, researching area schools or organizations, or just curious about what folks were up to long ago, odds are you'll find plenty of helpful material in our Records Room. And our friendly staff is more than happy to assist you if needed.
